The DOUGHMAN is a charity quadrathlon whose primary function is to raise funds and awareness (through event participation and the attendant advertising) of the Durham Inner-city Gardeners program at SEEDS. If you've visited the Durham Farmers' Market on any Saturday morning, you may have already visited the DIG booth to purchase the wares that the clever and hardworking youths of DIG have planted, cultivated, and harvested all in an environmentally and socially sustainable space housed at SEEDS.

In fact, the DIG products have the smallest carbon footprint of any products available for consumption in Durham since the garden is a mere 5 minutes from Durham's Central Park. Along with the obvious environmental benefits to supporting the DIG program, the social gains achieved through this program are immeasurable -- these urban youths develop a myriad of skills directly related to the gardening process and gain an understanding of environmental stewardship, nutrition, health, and economics all while improving their self-confidence and growing their leadership skills. |
